John was the lastof the apostles to die. He outlived the others ofthe twelve by close to 30 years. He lived into thelate 90s A.D.—close to about 100 A.D. Johnclearly, at that time, would have been close to100 years of age- he lived to a very advancedage.He was in exile for a period of time in the 90sA.D. on the isle of Patmos. Patmos is a smallisland off the coast of Asia Minor (what is todaymodern-day Turkey). He was placed in exile byEmperor Domitian. This exile ended about 96A.D. John had been in Ephesus prior to his exile.In the latter years, he was in Ephesus for severalyears. He was exiled from Ephesus to the islandof Patmos, yet he did have mail contact. It wasfrom the island of Patmos that he wrote most ofthe writings for which he is noted.The book of Revelation, in particular, waswritten at that time. He wrote to the Churches inAsia Minor.
